Work Description: Electrical engineering and biology students is encouraged to apply this position.

Topics area:
diagnosis of brain disorders, from EEG and other brain signals (Alzheimer`s disease and epilepsy);
graphical models and nonparametric statistical models for analyzing electrophysiological data (e.g., spike sorting and decoding);
principled statistical models for merging different brain imaging modalities (EEG/MEG/fMRI/DTI/single-unit recordings/etc.).
neural implants for seizure suppression (from control/game theoretic analysis to hardware design);
modeling of epileptic seizures (from abstract network models to detailed biophysical models);

This research is collaborated with RIKEN Brain Science Institute, MIT, MGH, Harvard University.

Besides the above positions, we are also recruiting students and postdocs for projects within the Singapore-MIT Alliance for Research & Technology (SMART), to be supervised by myself and MIT faculty.

In those projects we apply mathematical engineering to problems in bioengineering and biochemistry, for example:

Bayesian modeling of parasitic life cycle
large-scale graphical models for functional genomics
stochastic modeling and control engineering in the context of tissue generation.

Postgraduate Scholarship on Social Transformation and International Migration computer science postgraduate

Scholarship Description

Up to three full-time scholarships commencing 2011 Semester 1 are being offered for research leading to a PhD with the School of Social and Political Sciences at the University of Sydney. The project will re-examine the theoretical and methodological basis of international migration research. This project is interdisciplinary, and is designed to explore linkages across socio-spatial levels. This interdisciplinary approach can link the insights of micro-level research in sociology, anthropology and cultural studies, with the more macro-level analyses of economics, politics, political economy, law and geography.
